Calming Teachings from Chaotic Beings

I meant to share this earlier this week--this is the omen from Tuesday's ritual--a message that's not just for the attendees, but for anyone who needs it.  Not a big scary serious omen.  The ritual was about new beginnings, as this is a time that many are starting new school year, and others may have new projects--such as one druid's new youtube channel. The deities who showed up were surprising at first.  Loki,  Rán, and   Ægir .  Loki, I know, but Ran and Aegir, I don't know too well, never worked with Them before.  I know of Their domains and some stories--both are Ocean Jotuns, married, who have Nine Wave Daughters (who may or may not be Heimdall's mothers) .  I don't know much about Her husband other than His Hall, but I know Ran is associated with drowning, and collects victims in Her net.  I have met Her once before this ritual. It took me a few moments to connect to the two of Them because I don't already have an existing relat...

Thoughts About Working with Justice Gods

This image came across my feed the other day and I've been thinking about it and working with Justice Entities every since. Is it smart to work with Justice Entities, especially when atrocities have been and are legal?  Their domain is to uphold the law, regardless of morals.  Morals are extremely subjective, just as our laws are.  Way back when, many pagans owned slaves, it was normal to conquer, rape, and enslave.  Normal and the law of the wealthy and powerful.  In some parts of our modern world, slavery is still legal.  Murdering based solely on superstition and hate (African witch hunts, for example) is legal.   The Gods aren't human.  They see a huge picture that we cannot.  They don't serve us.  Their morals are different.   What ICE is doing is legal, according to the Orange Chump in Charge and the MAGA Cult.   What will the Justice Entities do?  Who will They favor?  The rich and powerful, the ...

A Word from Forseti

A couple of weeks ago, I was contacted by another Norse Justice God, Forseti.  He is the son of Baldur and Nanna.  Where Tyr is a Warrior Justice God, Forseti is a Peaceful Justice God. Just before last night's weekly Virtual Fire Proto-Grove ritual, Forseti wanted me to volunteer for the Omen.  When we brainstormed about the focus of the ritual, He said to hang back and see what they come up with.  Since one person was physically moving and another was metamorphically moving, we decided on Opening Doors focus.  One Druid chose Apollo for Inspiration and Prophecy, another chose Mac Lir as the Gatekeeper and the other chose Janus as the being of the occasion.   Liminal threshold deities. Then Forseti came through, saying that opening of doors is fitting for peaceful reconciliation, as opposed to the force of Tyr kicking open a door armed with a sword. Forseti came with messages and blessings.   The first thing that He said over and over ...

Divine Reactivity

Today I sat outside in the sun.  For about a month, I've been working on turning my pastey white skin tan...or trying to.  Once the lake water is warm enough to swim, I'm going to be spending a lot of time there, and I'd rather not turn into a lobster.  Anywho, when I do go outside, I greet Sunna, set an intention, set a timer on my phone, and either meditate/trance or read.  Today I chose to read: Edda by Snorri Sturluson.  Not my favorite author, but an important one to read (I'd rather be reading Dr Jackson Crawford's translations of Snorri).  I'm familiar with the stories and mythology, as it would seem that every author who writes about Norse Paganism and Magik has to talk about the mythology.  Can't have one without the other, which is kind of annoying to be honest.  But, hey, makes a book go faster when you're skipping parts that you've read multiple times. As I sat there, soaking up Sunna's rays with the intention of healing and protecti...

First Fire

First, a belated Blessed World Bee Day and...oh shoot, I can't remember...Mother's Day was one...I think there was another.  Hm.  Well, belated happy days. Wednesday was my kid's last day of school, but it was also very wet.  Last night we had our First Fire and Last Day of the School Year Celebration. I had planned on etching symbols into the metal of the fire pit, but I couldn't find my etching tool.  I think I packed it away with my Valkyrie Shrine.  Instead I went to my magikal cabinet for dried flowers and herbs.  I selected based on energies: Peace Joy Love Healing Protection Psychic Strength Good Abundance Good Health All into my orange coconut bowl.  With my fingers, I stirred and mixed the flowers and herbs together, repeating my intention for the mixture... Offering to the Hearth Kindreds and Spirits To dedicate the Fire Pit To anoint our Family, Home, Vehicle, and lot Tracing with my finger into the mixture, I galdred the runes as the...

Spiritual Discomfort

Happy Belated Mothers Day to those who observe.  My weekend was pretty nice.  On Saturday, we had finally had a nice, dry--but windy--weekend day.  So I tried out an pop up tent that I got for visiting the lake beach.  It's big!  It'll totally fits our cooler, stuff, and the 4-5 of us.  It's short, so I can't stand in it, but that's fine.  I got it to keep our stuff somewhat secured and to give us a break from the sun to rest, eat, and hydrate.  Our cooler will be heavy enough to keep it from blowing away--I have long tent pegs, I just don't know if they'll work in sand.  I'll try those out, too.  My midkid also has big rocks that we can try, too.  Now to have more warm days so the lake gets to comfortable swimming temps. I also thought I had trouble getting up from the ground, turns out that I can get up from the earth just fine.  It's hard man-made surfaces that I struggle with.  Hurts my knees.  No give.  Wher...

The Lands of Mist and Fire

Howdy yall.  Gentle Tuesday.  7 days into April and its been a combo of unhinged stupid ego and literally uplifting moon orbiting stuff with Artemis .   I recently had a reading done by a friend, which was nice.  Basically since the President Pedo stole power, my Kindreds have been telling me: Stay Present--You are stressing over speculation. Study Seidr. Study Rune Magik Study Clergy Courses Work on Art for my book Work on my Oracle deck. Yeah, three things got added this year.  They don't want me to do any magik, unless it's local.  They don't want me to do anything political, unless it's protection--but keep it local. In the reading, I was told that's doing a good job so far with the present practices.  My anxeity (<- google wants me to use AI for spelling fixes, so fuck em--guess that word's gonna be mispelled, and that one, too.  Fuck you Gemini.) and depression have gone way down (apparently cussing's gone up a bit, lol).  My de...

Another Sea God

In the Skaði post, I talked about a dream that I had years ago with two Polar Bears. Years later, Skaði revealed that the bears were Her and her ex, Njörðr. I learned that He's the Norse Vanir God of the Sea, father of Freyr and Freyja. Other than the dream, I didn't meet Njörðr again until 2020-21, when I was a member of the Wyrd Sanctuary. I think it was after one of our rituals. I tranced to a twilight desert that was empty, yet had weird shadows that stretched across the barren landscape. The time passed from twilight and slowly dimmed. I found myself standing next to a massive vegvisir, half submerged in the ground, yet ticking like a clock. Although not an ancient symbol--definitely not viking--vegvisir is like a compass that represents wayfinding and protection. Although I've read that it's also not a compass, which is fine, but that's what it is to me. I didn't even know what the symbol was when I first saw it. Giant and strange, the whole scene was. In...

The Skiing Huntress

As I wrote my post for Artemis , another Huntress was in my brain, wanting a post, too.   Years ago, like in the early 00's, possibly late 90's, I had a dream that's still stuck with me.  In the dream I was sitting on a mound or an igloo, with two polar bears.  A silent male and a talkative female.  In my experience, animal spirits don't use human language, but the Deities disguised as animals do.  In the dream, I joined the female and we walked and talked.  The quiet male stayed on the other side of the mound. I still can't remember what we talked about.  I thought the Deity in disguise was Artemis, but it wasn't.  For a long time, I didn't know Who these bears were. 2014-15, I was introduced to Loki through a story where He tied his balls to a goat in order to make a  Jötunn  laugh.  It was so ridiculous and it remains my favorite Loki myth.  The  Jötunn  who laughed was Skaði--a bow wielding Wintery Gian...

Tweaking my Sacred Year

Christmas Eve 2025 - When the Uno game battled on for two hours and Mistress Ventress decided that we were done! One of my favorite New Year traditions...or perhaps chores...is filling out the new calendar.  2023 was foxes.  2024's calendar theme was deer.  2025 was baby goats.  This year, I was able to get a Witches Calendar--a favorite of mine that I usually go for. This year's chore had me re-evaluating my Sacred Year--my holy days.   Paganism is a very DIY path, and being eclectic, very  DIY.  Lots of trials, errors, adopting, tossing, tweaking, and self evolution.  My spiritual path is very different than it was 10 years ago, 5 years ago, and even a year ago.  Which is good.  We're supposed to heal, question, and change.  We're supposed to evolve.  My Sacred Year has gone through many changes since I was a witchling. Wiccan to eclectic to spirit work to moon heavy to hearth focused to Hellenic to Norse to a mixture of...

Ritual Reflection

June 22: I just performed the Summer Solstice Ritual with my family. I wrote it in ADF Norse Hearth Culture style, using a script on the Members-Only (I believe) Norse Ritual page. Of course I tweaked it a little bit with my own stuff and stuff that I’ve been using from other ADF sources. Overall, the ritual went okay, but it felt rushed because of some of the excerpts that I copied just didn’t read well—especially the Opening the Gates parts. Here’s my script . When I read the script in my head it sounded fine. But when I read it aloud with my family today it was difficult. Didn’t read right. I don’t know if that’s just the writing style or if maybe I copied it down wrong—because when I copied it from the webpage, it formatted weird on my word document. Or maybe I’m just not used to that style? That and it was just too wordy—kennings tend to be. As a Dyslexic (and probably my other neuro shit) I’m just not a fan of wordy, flowery poetic language. I like reading poems…...

Blessed Solstice!

Be you in the Northern or Southern hemispheres.   Let me tell you what, the Weather Deities are brining that summer heat this weekend.  It's supposed to be in the upper 90's!  Can't say that I'm looking forward to those temps.  However I would love to go camping soon.  Maybe next year, we'll plan ahead and book a site and invite some of our other camp-happy friends for a Solstice Party?  Find a place with a swimming beach--there's one near us, too.  I'm just not a big fan of crowds, especially if we're swimming with our kids.  We'll figure it out. My husband's not much of a camper, so maybe we can gather friends and/or family and rent a cabin near a beach?  I haven't done the cabin thing since I was a teenager. I'm just tired of being a homebody.  I'm in my 40's now and I want to go camping, darn it. Last night, on the Solstice Eve, I put out a fully enclosed queen-sized mosquito netting outside, and me and two of the kids spe...

Buggy Messengers

Oh, to be a Loki Fly on the wall...or a mint leaf. Sometimes Loki takes the form of a fly for me. I know its Loki because it follows me around and does things that flies don't usually do. Especially when He really wants my attention. Loki COULD just say something to get my attention...but no. Sometimes He'd rather take the form of a fly and drive me nuts until I finally stop swatting and ask if its Them. Once Loki delivers the message, the fly disappears and doesn't bother me...until the next time Loki Fly decides to "bug" me again. © 2024 Hearth Fox Oracle

Book Review: The Witch's Heart

Again, I'm not a professional blogger or book reviewer, just a lover of books and writing. Seeing that I don't have any more Goddess Girls or Thunder Girls books on hand, I decided to read something more for my age and something a little bit closer to Norse Mythology: The Witch's Heart by Genevieve Gornichec . The story is about Angrboda, Gullveig, seidr, her relationships with Loki and Skadi, she and Loki's children, Odin, Ragnarok, and the new world born from Surt's fires and ash.  It's about love and friendship, betrayal and loss, healing, rage, and finding oneself.  I loved how the author weaved the surviving myths together, filling in chunks that we just don't have, as we only have what's survived with her own imagination. I laughed and cried, and really felt Angrboda's pain and strength. I think it's a beautiful story, skillfully written, and one of my favorite retellings of modern mythology so far. It also highlights the issue of why...
