 Howdy Friday the 13th, yall!   I hope the month has been gentle. I'm still here, although not posting as often.  December's are exciting and fun, but also heavy with grief for me.  I've been working on being present for myself and with my family.  Focusing on living our paganism and prepping for the 12 Days of Yule...although technically, Yule is all December for us.  December's are usually full of rituals and activities.   Course last year, after my mom's death in October, I was watching A Christmas Story Christmas 10 or more times a day, everyday for two months.  Spoiler alert , Ralphie's dad dies in the beginning, and Ralphie tries to make Christmas super special, but in the end realizes that you don't need all those traditions and activities to have a great holiday.  Sometimes less is better, especially when you're mourning.  I've been keeping this in mind.   Normally I wait until after the Last Harvest (Thanksgiving) to put up the Yule decorations. But in these darkening times (and I'm not just talking about the seasons), I just needed some light, some hope. Especially for my kids. While selecting the ornaments for the kids to excitedly hang on the tree this year, I picked those that bring us joy and fun memories. Memorial ornaments. Spiritual and magikal ones, too. In my family, the Yule Tree serves as an altar for many kinds of magiks and for honoring our Kindreds, especially our Ancestors. It serves as an altar for great love, joy, protection, community, healing, and other things. Important things needed to combat darkness. Things to feed the spirit...and spirits. Did you know that some believe that the Yule Goat is connected to Thor's goats, Tanngrisnir and Tanngnjostr? Thor sacrifices his goats to feed his family. In the morning, He resurrects them with His mighty hammer. In our family, on Yule Eve, after our Mother Reindeer Ritual and the Yule Pumpkin hunt, we leave out offerings of sun cookies for Reindeer Mother and Elen of the Ways, mead or whiskey for Odin and Sleipnir, and oatmeal and carrots for the Yule Goat and Tomte. In the morning, the kids find their stockings filled with treats, something to wear, and a gift wrapped in plain brown paper and twine. Some people also burn their straw or wooden goats, then make a new one each year, a similar tradition to burning a Yule Log/candles or a stick bundle, stuffed with bay leaves and slips of paper with hopes and wishes.   I love Halloween, it's the best time to find props and masks for rituals and magik.  Take em home, cleanse, bless, enchant, and dedicate. I am a fan of antlers and horns, and I've always wanted a ritual headdress with them (every since I saw a togruta [Star Wars], I've always wanted their montrals and headtails as spiritual garb).  Spirit Halloween had a great horn selection, but also a bit pricey or they just looked better with hair or wigs.  I don't have any nice fun wigs yet.  I was hoping to find a better deer antler mask or headband--better yet reindeer antlers (there were a couple, but they didn't look very nice).  For the last few years, since learning about the Reindeer Mother, every Yule I do a ritual honoring Her and Elen of the Ways.  I've been wanting to wear reindeer cow antlers for my fall and winter rituals.   I've found beautiful reindeer cow antlered headdresses on Etsy, Amazon, and other places, made by hand by other spiri...
