A Gift From the Spirits

I found a perfectly preserved Damselfly today.  Hopefully it's sunny tomorrow, because I'd like to capture pictures of those iridescent wings.  🥰 Thank you Nature Spirits for this beautiful specimen.

Bees and Shadows, Light and Darkness

(Originally posted on my Substack .  Also yall don't have to subscribe to my SS, you can simply Follow, too, if you'd like.) Today is actually March 1st as I type this. I’ve got two things on my mind: my mom and bees. The only thing those two have in common is that bees are psychopomps in some cultures—entities that carry the dead to the Spirit World. And my mom is dead. She died on October 14, 2023. We had a complicated relationship. She was an emotionally abusive alcoholic and I wasn’t an enabler. All the family wanted was for her to get sober, and all she wanted was death. When I learned of her death, I felt immense relief and a weight lifted from me. The grief and healing process have been longer—going on before her death, honestly. I just put her memorial photos in an album yesterday. It felt good to put all of that information into a physical book. I sat there, looked and read, and remembered. How I reacted. How the kids reacted. Dealing with family and strangers. Some ...

A Answer

Last night, I journeyed for advice. I found myself in a dark cave, sitting across from Elen at a dark fire pit, Alum sitting on my crossed legs.  Goddesses around us.  This was the dark place that we worked the strength magik together recently.  But everything was frozen in time.  The goddesses, the light, everything, except for me.  They told me to wait, but this wasn't waiting--this was stuck.  No movement.  No passing time.  Stagnant.  I stood up, Alum asked me what was wrong.  I told him that this wasn't Wait.  This was stuck. The rune Isa. I was stuck, in between decisions.  This was true.  Although it's not like I had to make an immediate decision.  Nothing was on the line.  Just me trying to figure out what direction I should take. A snake woman--who may or may not have been Medusa--slithered around the edge of camp.  Stabbed a bronze heart tipped arrow into my chest from behind. I woke up on ...

Persephone's Descent

Blessed Full Moon Yall!  Tonight is a full moon, also known as an esbat in some spiritual/practitioner circles. This day is also a holy day for some people who work with the Greek Goddess Persephone. Some folks believe that on September’s full moon, Persephone returns to the Underworld for Her winter stay with Hades, returning to the surface in March. Others may see Her Descent occurring on the Fall Equinox (September 20-22) or on the Dark Moon (September 25). I invite you to also look into the Eleusinian Mysteries, which was/is a week long festival honoring Demeter and Persephone. I believe there are other festivals honoring Demeter and Persephone around this time, but all of my Hellenic Polytheistic binders are packed away.   Persephone's Descent, September 2021 Most people are familiar with the story of Persephone and Hades—the Flower Maiden named Kore (“maiden”) who was viciously kidnapped by the evil Death God, and tricked with 6 pomegranates to remain in Hades. A ...
