What Survived

I recently finished  Ariadne  by Jennifer Saint. It was the Hellenic take of Ariadne’s story (as She is originally a sovereign Minoan Underworld Goddess), although I won’t tell you which ending the author chose in case you want to read it too. I am a fan of modern mythology and retellings. Giving voices to those who had none in most of the old stories. Exposing so-called “heroes” who don’t deserve hero-worship as the dishonorable POS they were. In the Hellenic stories, Ariadne was the Princess of Crete who helped Perseus escape the labyrinth after he killed the Minotaur. She escaped with him and the dbag abandoned her on an island and moved on with his life as a celebrated hero. Now there’s different versions of the story, one of which Perseus attempts to spread in the book. But with the old stories, sometimes Ariadne dies on the island and other times, Dionysus falls in love with her, she becomes his wife, and an immortal. How this all happens…well, different versions....

Book Review: The Goddess Girls and The Thunder Girls

Needing some feel-good happy energies, I've been checking the middle grade school level books Goddess Girls and Thunder Girls by Joan Holub and Suzanne Williams . Yes, even at 40-years-old I still enjoy reading children, teen, and young adult books.  It's good for my Inner Child and I don't care what others think I should be reading at my age!  I read plenty of scholar-level books.  My brain and soul needs a break from time-to-time.  Plus I have kids in elementary and middle school--I like to check out what they're reading or may want to read. * Just a heads up, I'm fairly new to writing my own book reviews.  I am far from a professional.  This post derails few times.  I enjoyed these books and felt like talking about them, and maybe others will want to check them out, too. I also have dyslexia and I don't have an editor. * The Goddess Girls deal with Greek Mythology and the Thunder Girls with Norse Mythology. Although neither are true to those a...

How My Vestalia is Going & Hestia the Invisible

Boo!  I've been sick this Vestalia and haven't been able to do my usual stuff, minus a deep spiritual cleanse of my home and a re-warding.  First I cleansed my home by asking the Norse Solar Goddess Sunna to cleanse my property and vehicle with sunlight.  Then I went inside and opened the windows and curtains for that spring breeze and sunshine.  The weather has actually been pretty nice this Vestalia, with temps in the 60's-75F.  I've been spending a lot of time outside resting, reading, and crocheting. Inside, I lit the sage bundle by saying, " In the names of Hestia-Vesta and the Vestals, I light this sage to cleanse my home of all unwanted energies and entities.  You are not wanted here and must leave! "  I walked my home counterclockwise to banish those unwanted energies.  Then I declared what energies and entities are welcome. I cleansed the home again with energy, to get those pesky nooks and crannies, like under my trailer. Next, I re-ward...

Hestia, Dionysus & Mythology

Anetteprs Illustrations' Hestia Hail Hestia! She was one of my first deities, and revealed Herself to me when I was very young. She is one of my Spiritual Mothers and I am one of Her priestesses. And I really love this depiction of Her (I adore this artists' work. Go check out their website !).  So beautiful. If you click on the link and read what the artist wrote about Hestia, she writes a little bit of myth by Robert Graves about Hestia giving up her spot on Mount Olympus for Dionysus.  Personal Opinion Time and no shade is being thrown at the artist, this is a common myth that some accept, some don't.  I don't like Robert Graves. Do I see this myth as a literal thing?  No.  I do not take myths literally; in my experience there are huge differences between real entities and myth entities.  Often time, myth entities are just characters in a story, a piece of fanfiction.  They are stories written by humans with their own agendas: lessons, entertainmen...

Persephone's Descent

Blessed Full Moon Yall!  Tonight is a full moon, also known as an esbat in some spiritual/practitioner circles. This day is also a holy day for some people who work with the Greek Goddess Persephone. Some folks believe that on September’s full moon, Persephone returns to the Underworld for Her winter stay with Hades, returning to the surface in March. Others may see Her Descent occurring on the Fall Equinox (September 20-22) or on the Dark Moon (September 25). I invite you to also look into the Eleusinian Mysteries, which was/is a week long festival honoring Demeter and Persephone. I believe there are other festivals honoring Demeter and Persephone around this time, but all of my Hellenic Polytheistic binders are packed away.   Persephone's Descent, September 2021 Most people are familiar with the story of Persephone and Hades—the Flower Maiden named Kore (“maiden”) who was viciously kidnapped by the evil Death God, and tricked with 6 pomegranates to remain in Hades. A ...
