Ritual Reflection

June 22: I just performed the Summer Solstice Ritual with my family. I wrote it in ADF Norse Hearth Culture style, using a script on the Members-Only (I believe) Norse Ritual page. Of course I tweaked it a little bit with my own stuff and stuff that I’ve been using from other ADF sources. Overall, the ritual went okay, but it felt rushed because of some of the excerpts that I copied just didn’t read well—especially the Opening the Gates parts. Here’s my script . When I read the script in my head it sounded fine. But when I read it aloud with my family today it was difficult. Didn’t read right. I don’t know if that’s just the writing style or if maybe I copied it down wrong—because when I copied it from the webpage, it formatted weird on my word document. Or maybe I’m just not used to that style? That and it was just too wordy—kennings tend to be. As a Dyslexic (and probably my other neuro shit) I’m just not a fan of wordy, flowery poetic language. I like reading poems…...

Blessed Solstice!

Be you in the Northern or Southern hemispheres.   Let me tell you what, the Weather Deities are brining that summer heat this weekend.  It's supposed to be in the upper 90's!  Can't say that I'm looking forward to those temps.  However I would love to go camping soon.  Maybe next year, we'll plan ahead and book a site and invite some of our other camp-happy friends for a Solstice Party?  Find a place with a swimming beach--there's one near us, too.  I'm just not a big fan of crowds, especially if we're swimming with our kids.  We'll figure it out. My husband's not much of a camper, so maybe we can gather friends and/or family and rent a cabin near a beach?  I haven't done the cabin thing since I was a teenager. I'm just tired of being a homebody.  I'm in my 40's now and I want to go camping, darn it. Last night, on the Solstice Eve, I put out a fully enclosed queen-sized mosquito netting outside, and me and two of the kids spe...

My Sacred Wheel: Summer Solstice

This is what my Wheel of the Year looks like (my Sacred Year actually has more holy days than 8): Midwinter - Feb 1st - https://substack.com/home/post/p-155668258 Spring Equinox / First Day of Spring - March 20-23 - https://substack.com/home/post/p-158712101 Midspring - May 1st - https://substack.com/home/post/p-162285589 Summer Solstice / First Day of Summer - June 20-23 - Midsummer - August 1st Fall Equinox / First Day of Fall- September 20-23 Midfall - November 1st Winter Solstice / First Day of Winter - Dec 20-23 Good June, yall. The Wheel is slowing turning to the First Day of Summer, aka the Summer Solstice. In other places, this High Day is known by many names such as Midsummer, Midsommar, and Litha. 2024 - Sunna’s Summer Solstice Healing Throw. If you’ve learned anything about me, in my neck of the woods, Solstices and Equinox’s are always the beginnings of a season, so I don’t like to use Mids for the quarters—because it’s not the middle of the season. I save the ...

Blessed Solstice and Strawberry Moon!

In my family, we celebrate the High Days for three days.  Yesterday we saved a Gray Treefrog from a scorching death, we had Bdubs for dinner, and we caught lightning bugs in the evening.  We have more planned this weekend. A Gray Treefrog I didn't know we had Treefrogs in Ohio This little dude was green with yellow on its legs, and kind of reminded me of the throw that I'm working on. I'm also participating in a Make-a-Long in a fiber artist Facebook Group by Devin Hunter and Arin Murphy-Hiscock called  Fiber Spirit .  The MAL is focusing on Manifest, thus whatever we're making has to manifest something.  It started yesterday and ends on August 1st. I got some yarn from a friend a couple of weeks ago and it had 6 crocheted patches in it.  So I made more, with the intention of having Sunna bless it on the Summer Solstice with the overflowing positive energies of joy, good health, and abundance.  Each piece was made with those intentions.  Yes...

The First Day of Summer Will Soon Be Here

(Copy/paste from my Druidry Blog ) The Summer Solstice is in a couple of days and I'm excited. I've been feeling the Norse Solar Goddess Sunna poking at me over the last few months. I'm working on a kid-friendly ritual to honor Her with my family, without the wasps and sudden possession this time! Yes, last year, I hosted a Summer Solstice ritual with a local group (before I joined ADF).  We had the ritual in a shelter at Delaware State Park (Ohio) and I was unknowingly standing under a wasp nest that was beneath a sign.  I was stung 5 times--once on my thumb and 4 on my thigh.  Some of the attendees were surprised by how I handled it.  I wasn't crying, cursing, or hating the wasps or myself.  After some ice and a few minutes to sit, I just moved the altar and continued.  Don't get me wrong, it hurt!  But whether I was sitting or performing the rite, it'd still be hurting, so I decided to go on with ritual that I had worked so hard on planning....

PDC Summer Solstice Gathering, PT 1

Yesterday Facebook group, Pagans of Delaware County (Ohio) held a Summer Solstice Meet'n'Greet'n'Ritual.  We talked and laughed, cooked and ate together, learned about the Summer Solstice, and made ribbon rings and wands.  It was a lot of fun and exciting, too!  We even had a mouse guest that my middle son first spotted. When we arrive at the shelter, I greeted the Nature Spirits and asked if it was okay to have ritual there.  They said yes.  Crystal and I cleansed, warded, and blessed the area and the altar.  We ate and laughed.  Offered some free divination and made dancing ribbons of different colors.  After Crystal talked about the solstice, I talk a bit about color magick for folks to think about as their made their rings and wands. I asked first that they think about what certain colors mean to them.  Then I talked about what different colors may mean in different cultures, religions, and traditions.  I went into chakras a little ...

Blessed Solstice & Happy First Day of Summer!

Vestal Rhea has a solstice message for those of the Hearth Fox Oracle community!  Really anyone who reads this post and resonates with the cards.   The Vestal has selected the Pride Tarot. Vestal Rhea, representative of the Living Flame, Goddess Vesta, what is your message for us on this Summer Solstice? 1) Past - Queen of Wands - Determination.  Getting to know your Shadow Self, its needs, its desires.  Learning how to work together to become whole. 2) Present - The Empress - Nurturing, Abundance.  Take a look around you and be grateful for what you've worked for.  Today, tomorrow, next, anytime this season, make time to be outside.  Take in the beauty and sounds.  Ground your wild energies to balance and see clearly.  Allow earth's compassion to flow through you, to help you learn to compassionate for others and yourself.  You cannot pour of an empty vessel. 3) Future - Queen of Cups - Compassion, Caring.  Take the time to...

Blessed Summer Solstice!

Greetings yall!  The First Day of Summer (or Winter, if you're in the Southern Hemisphere) is upon us!  Today I'm doing another spread from the wonderful @moommamaoracle, simply called the Summer Solstice Spread  (please don't click the link until after the reading).  I'm going to do a Pick-a-Card for this one, using the Everyday Witch Oracle by Deborah Blake. Close your eyes, take some deep breaths, and let intuition or your guides direct you.  Pay attention to numbers, letters, and positions that may pop up in your mind.  Pick your card(s)! (I apologize for the crappy picture quality.  Sometimes my phone takes great photos, other times not so much.) Have you picked your card(s)? Here's the reveal! 1) What should I leave in the darkness with this solstice?   Imagine and Envision - Hestia says, "Less imagination.  Get out of your head and put those goals into action this season." 2)  What new beginning is waiting for me this...

Black Salt for the Vestalia

The Vestalia is just around the corner: June 7-15th! It is a festival that honors the Roman Hearth and Home Goddess, Vesta, and Her Vestals. It is also a time for Purification of body, mind, spirit, and home. Physical and spiritual deep cleansing. This Blessed Black Salt could be a perfect addition to your fire, purification, protection, banework, spirit work, and even social justice spells, as Vesta was often involved with Roman politics. Vesta’s Blessed Ash is made from the ashes of protective herbs and sigils that have been collected from home cleansings and blessings throughout the year. This collected ash is then combined with table salt and blessed by Vesta. It can be smeared onto sigils, doors, and figures; sprinkled on thresholds, property, and ritual spaces; used as an ingredient for spell work, and more. I make batches throughout the year and bottle upon order. - 15ml glass bottles with aluminum cap; 1.5 H x 1 W x 4 CIR inches - Blessed Ash - Fire Charm FOR EXTERNAL USE ONLY!...
