First, a belated Blessed World Bee Day and...oh shoot, I can't remember...Mother's Day was one...I think there was another. Hm. Well, belated happy days.
Wednesday was my kid's last day of school, but it was also very wet. Last night we had our First Fire and Last Day of the School Year Celebration.
I had planned on etching symbols into the metal of the fire pit, but I couldn't find my etching tool. I think I packed it away with my Valkyrie Shrine. Instead I went to my magikal cabinet for dried flowers and herbs. I selected based on energies:
- Peace
- Joy
- Love
- Healing
- Protection
- Psychic Strength
- Good Abundance
- Good Health
All into my orange coconut bowl. With my fingers, I stirred and mixed the flowers and herbs together, repeating my intention for the mixture...
- Offering to the Hearth Kindreds and Spirits
- To dedicate the Fire Pit
- To anoint our Family, Home, Vehicle, and lot
Tracing with my finger into the mixture, I galdred the runes as the Kindred gave them to me:
- Othala
- Kenaz
- Laguz
- Algiz
- Berkana
- Ansuz
- Sowilo
I felt Them adding Their magik to mine.
With an ADF Opening Prayer and a Hearth Keeper Prayer, I poured the mixture into the fire pit first. Later, each of my kids added pieces of paper from their school year to release and say goodbye. I added the kindle and the log, and began fire tending.
I told them about our Hearth Kindred and Spirits, we roasted hotdogs and made smores--just me and the kids and their friends. Later when they went home, I wrapped myself in one of my loom knitted blankets, sat in the chilly night tending to the fire and its embers, waiting for it to burn out.
Although my cat enjoyed being out late at night, she was also confused as to why we hadn't gone inside yet. I watched the smoke forms. Quieted my mind and just listened to my cat hunting bugs in the grass and occasionally crashing into the skirt of our trailer. I watched Sister Moon climb a tree and walk across the sky. I listened to the frogs singing their nighttime songs at the pond behind us. The soft hiss of the embers.
I must've looked witchy to passing neighbors, as my head was covered in the blanket and I held a long hook used to stir the embers and ashes. Well, as the kids say, IYKYK.
Yes, it was a great night for a Good Fire.
Thanks for the support!
