Normally I wait until after the Last Harvest (Thanksgiving) to put up the Yule decorations. But in these darkening times (and I'm not just talking about the seasons), I just needed some light, some hope. Especially for my kids. While selecting the ornaments for the kids to excitedly hang on the tree this year, I picked those that bring us joy and fun memories. Memorial ornaments. Spiritual and magikal ones, too. In my family, the Yule Tree serves as an altar for many kinds of magiks and for honoring our Kindreds, especially our Ancestors. It serves as an altar for great love, joy, protection, community, healing, and other things. Important things needed to combat darkness. Things to feed the spirit...and spirits.   They want us to be divided and fight amongst ourselves.  Keeps the focus off of them. Keeps us from unifying as one to take them down. They are united in their hate and greed. We must be united in our love and hope. We can't do that if we're blaming each other  and taking our fear out on the wrong people.

 

I practice Ancestral Veneration all year long. For me, a handful are usually around year round. Around this time and around May, the spirit activity amps up as more spirits come to visit and also seem to have more strength in how they let us know they're around.  This year, I did something a little different to honor my mom...which is weird to say because she and I had a really rocky relationship and she doesn't even have a place on the Ancestral Shrine. At the same time, my mom wasn't a gamer, but was a great designer who was proud of her house. I think she might appreciate this more, me recreating her house in Sims 4.  Instagram Making this house was really important for my grief work, too. Regardless of my relationship with her. Maybe it's doing some grounding, gardening, working with herbs and plants, making some oils, harvesting and drying, canning with some hearth magik? Working with crystals perhaps? What does earth magik look like to you? Feel like? Mean to you? In the early mornings, I enjoy walking with my camera and photographing wildlife and looking for animal omens. Today's omen was this beautiful white moth, wings spread, head down. It looked like a lotus flower, which for many is a symbol of spiritual healing. Oh, to be a Loki Fly on the wall...or a mint leaf. Sometimes Loki takes the form of a fly for me. I know its Loki because it follows me around and does things that flies don't usually do. Especially when He really wants my attention. Loki COULD just say something to get my attention...but no. Sometimes He'd rather take the form of a fly and drive me nuts until I finally stop swatting and ask if its Them.
