April 26:
With a huge push from Hekate, I got a firepit. I've been wanting one for years. It's not a fancy one, just a $50 one, just to see if we like it. If we do, then we'll budget for a better one. Before our first burn, I'm going to dedicate it to my Hearth Kindreds, whom are:
- Hestia
- Vesta
- Vestals
- Hekate
- Brigid
- Frigg
- Freyja
- Loki
- Baba Yaga
- Tomten
- Nisser
- Agathos Daimon
- The Disir
- Unnamed House Spirits
As well as my fire starting and tending tools. I think I may bless some oil and lightly anoint the bowl of the pit. Once the wood is burning, then pour some as offering.
I was also thinking about carving some sigils into the metal. I took an intaglio print making class back in college, so I have a a super sharp tool that easily scratches into metals. The bowl of the firepit is nice, but gives off strong water scrying vibes, too. No doubt I'll be using it for multiple things, from magik to scrying to cooking. I have a little grill that I usually use to burn for magikal purposes, but it's quite rusted now (hence why I also got my firepit a cover--I'd like it to last, even if we get a better one).
What sigils? No idea yet. Perhaps my Hearth Kindreds names? Protection spells? I'm not sure yet. And hey maybe I'll do it all on Midspring? Prepare it during the day and have my first fire at night? I don't really have any other plans for Midspring this year, other than attending my Grove's rituals and the usual personal and community divinations.
Earth Day was my youngest 8th bday, yesterday was the double Minecraft/Poppy Playtime party, and today is Midkid's 12th birthday. Fox Witch Mama's a little tired. Who knows how I'll feel in 5 days?
Oh, I am also working on a set of rune dice to dedicate to Freyja and Frigg.
Today I put together a mixture of dragons blood oil, my blood, water, cinnamon, mint, rose petals, pink salt, and other herbs and oils. The dice will soak in the mixture for a bit, with me agitating it to make sure all of the dice are suffiently soaked. Usually I make a blood and water mixture and paint it on my personal runes before I do any painting, carving, sealing, etc. I'm just trying something a little different this time.
Later I'll let them dry for a few days. Hopefully on the first, they're be ready for me to gladr, seal, and dedicate. Freyja and Frigg also picked out a silvery blue yarn color for the pouch.
This color blue also reminds me of Great Blue Heron colors, and herons are one of Frigg's sacred birds. Heron is also a bird that I strongly associate with seidr because of their liminality--"One foot stands upon the land, and the other is in the water. His eye is raised to the sky" (The Garanus Meditation by Rev. Dangler, May 15, 2019). When I do seidr trancework, I go to a foggy marsh land, and there's usually a Great Blue Heron standing in the distance (an elk too). For my seidr work, I commissioned a GBH feather crochet shawl, too, to wear/sit on, to mark my High Seat (I also want a hawk feather shawl for Freyja, too. Eventually I want a reindeer pelt, too).
April 28:
Second day of painting my dice runes! I've soaked them in the mixture, let them dry, and was able to paint some of the rose pieces that were stuck to some of the dice onto them. Petals that wouldn't stick, I smeared them into the wood and then painted. I did forget to galdr when I was painting the runes onto the dice, though. However, I will gladr them before the second coat.
My aunt gave me a pin...thing...with an aquamarine stone on it. I've decided to bend it into a spiral and sew it into the pouch.
May 1, 2026:
Rain has thwarted my fire pit plan today, but I've cleaned my home and gave the Family Altar a Midspring make-over. Also my runes are ready to be dedicated to Frigg and Freyja.
Since this full moon has me a little drained, I won't be doing a Community Reading today. Hopefully some time this weekend, I'll do that for yall.
I hope you have a good and gentle weekend!
Thanks for all of the support!
