Back in 2018-ish, I was apart of a circle of witches called the Sisters of the Moon Circle. Local and in-person. We met monthly for classes, rituals, and friendship. During a Fall Equinox ritual honoring Dionysus and Arachne, I taught my sisters how to make protection wards using popsicle sticks and white yarn. The sticks were the frames and the yarn represented spider's web.
The ritual was inspired by a poem where Arachne's spiders protected Dionysus's grapes from pests. So I taught them how to make dreamcatcher-like protection wards. At the time, we raised energy through movement to charge our spider web wards. To only let in/out the good and the needed, and for the webbing to capture the bad and unnecessary--from us and from others. We asked Arachne to bless our wards with spiders to consume the nasty energy, and to cleanse the webs when needed.
I've kept mine through the years. I use my web ward for my kids--to chase away their nightmares and anything else that might get through my home protections. I cleanse it and feed the spider spirit when it needs it, to which my kids will bring it to me once the "bad dreams get in".
Tonight I did something a little different.
I use energy balls often with my healing magiks, as well as offerings.
I rub my hands together to create heat--which is energy. I gently pull my hands apart, feeling the resistance and the heat of the energy. I form a ball and fill it with intention and sometimes a target. Then I send the ball off to wherever, whomever. Or I may put the ball into me or an object.
Tonight, I anchored myself between Earth and Universe and I opened a well of energy and created the ball, filling with it purifying energies. Holding the ball, I put the web ward in that hand and with the other I began to cleanse, sending the unwanted dirty energies down into the earth to be recycled as the spirits see fit.
Sensing it cleansed, I pulled energy up from the well to charge it with protection. The spirits gave me runes, too. Runes that I drew on the ward once I closed the well and opened my eyes.
Then I showed my kids the cleansed and charged web ward and hung it back in their room.
Now, not everyone can do the same kind energy work or magik (and we all sense energy differently), but if you can, energy balls can be fairly simple to create. Like most things in life, you just gotta practice, or find another method. You don't have to do all the fancy stuff I did--you can if you want. Keeping in mind that I didn't do a COoR ritual or anything like that. The only tools I used was me. I created an energy ball and closed my eyes to visualize the source well. I don't usually need to do much for witchcraft or energy work--it just depends on what kind of Working I'm doing.
Hell, you can do a whole ass ritual if you want, with all the stuff! Do what you need to to get you into the right headspace. Just remember, simple works, too. Magik tends to take the path of least resistance. If you over complicate it, you could lose focus. Energy balls can be pretty simple and effective, and they can be fairly versatile, too. You can make em just to make them--they don't need any intention, other than practice or curiosity.
Practice makes better. What works for some, doesn't work for all. Trial and error.
