Dec 1:
Today we’re having our feast. It’s just me and a heavy bird. Second time cooking turkey. It’s also a energy-sapping heavy ass moontime. Also also my sadist cat is clumsy af and cut up both of my legs shortly before dealing with this bird.
Before I began, I put on some Pagan/holiday music and thanked the turkey, herbs, and veggies for their sacrifice, hoping that I honor them with good cooking. Then I asked for my Ancestors guidance and strength. And when I did start to get overwhelmed, They whispered, “Butter”, so I started on that step. As usual, They whispered to keep me on track and not forget anything as I went.
No overwhelm. No freakouts. Pretty smooth.
Then came time to put the turkey in the bag (also Peter Gundry’s ‘Lady of the Dawn (Nordic)’ just cut Lindsey Stirling off…I guess it really wanted to play). I was alone with a heavy, buttery, stuffed bird and a bag of veggies…and that I should’ve put the bird in the bag first. I asked the Ancestors for strength.
…Then Loki appeared.
“Oh no, Loki why are you here? You’re Chaos–the last thing I need right now.”
He said, “Think smarter, not harder. Be a Loki, not a Thor. You don’t need brute strength, just ingenuity.”
Thinking about this, “Okay…okay…” trying to brain through the exhausted fuzz…
Then it came to me. Turn things this way, overlay the pans, and slide er in! I got the turkey into the bag, without mortal help, and without mess or chaos! YAS!
Yes, Loki is a Trickster and Chaos–potential chaos. Sure, He may cause some of that chaos, but He’s also a problem solver. Tricksters tend to get a bad rap, but for me They teach how to navigate those chaotic waters. I’d rather have the skills than be at the mercy of chaos in heavy, slick raw turkey form.
Thank you, Kindreds. Thank you, Loki. Strength has its place, but so does patience and brains.

PS the turkey turned out delicious. I've been sick so I haven't had the energy to upload the pictures yet, so I can't show off that beautiful bird. I also made sweet potato casserole, gluten free brown gravy, green beans, rolls, and gluten free apple cinnamon cardamon cake.
Dec 2:
Yay, its a Snow Day! Midkid asked if there were any snow gods, so I taught him a little bit about Ullr, Skadi, Mother Hulda, Frau Holle, and The Cailleach. He excitedly thanked them all for no school!
