Someone in a forum posted a video about the forever ongoing topic of cursing and hexing. If you've been in the online communities for a long time, you're probably aware of how these conversations go.
SHAME SHAME SHAME 3FOLDLAW HARMNONE SHAME SHAME HOLIER-THAN-THOU SHAME SHAME SHAME YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING YOU AREN'T ARE OF THE CONSEQUENCES OF YOUR ACTIONS DARK MAGIK BLACK MAGIK IS EVIL SHAME SHAME SHAME NOT A REAL WITCH SHAME SHAME SHAME ALL CURSORS ARE IGNORNANT OF CONSEQUENCES SHAME SHAME SHAME
It's basically a controversial topic that's always going to get super fighty and dramatic--it's a Cauldron of Shit Stirring topic. I typically stay out of those conversations and fights. I was in them a lot when I was younger, but eventually I grew up and left those trolly ass, controlling forums.
How someone practices doesn't affect you. A lot of the Harm None/3 Fold Law folks are giant hypocrites anyway--at least from my experience--like, the preachy loudmouths, as preachy loudmouths tend to be--hypocritical, no real experience, parroting others, fearmongering liars.
I didn't watch the video. Youtube don't like my ad blockers. 😆 However, in the forum I was in, people are mature and not preachy. If they have any, they leave their Christian Baggage at the door to have mature informed spiritual conversation. So I felt comfortable to give my two cents on Cursing and Hexing, which I do practice, and have practiced for about 20 or so years. This was my response:
I'll protect me and mine, and anyone else who needs it. In my practise, cursing and hexing are extreme forms of protection and healing. I always consult Mama Hekate, Artemis, Loki, and Freyja before hand. But sometimes They tell me who to help and who to ignore.

I don't believe in harm none, western karma, or three fold. But I do have my own ethics and I do accept any consequences that comes with any decision. Most spells--even positive ones--can negatively affect others. I honestly think it's impossible to harm none--even with healing, you're killing organisms that are just trying to survive, like a snake feeding on the cute little bunny. One person's curse can be another person's survival--and sometimes yes, entitled immature ego. Understanding that bane magik ain't for everyone, make sure you're at least skilled in protection and have got layers of protection against those who curse out of ego, fear, and hate.
I'm the type where I'd rather have the knowledge and know-how and not need it, than need it and not have it. Not everyone's gonna play nice out there. Not all are ethical or share your perspectives--just because you're a witch or a pagan don't mean that you're a good person, something that is subjective anyway--as many have learned about their own loved ones within the last year or so.

If you're good with bane magik, do it. If you're not, focus your skills on other things. Every healthy community is made up of different jobs and skills--different necessary parts. Not everyone can be a soldier, a healer, an oracle, a gardener, a teacher, a mechanic, a leader, etc. As long as you're not doing these things out of fear, ego, or hate, all parts are needed and the we need to stop shaming people.
Plus some people who are doing the shaming, maybe we should be questioning their motives. Some are simply trolls. Some are actually non-witches and pagans coming in to start problems and intentionally scare people, maybe even scaring them towards Christianity. Some are still griping that Christian Baggage. Some are unhealed and fearful. Some folks are just talkin out of their butts. Some probably had one bad experience or their cousins-brothers-daddies-uncles-best friends-sisters-little-girls-dog friend-pet parent had a bad experience.
Fear-based, not experience.
If you're not comfortable, don't do it. We're not all meant to be first responders or military. Or babysitters, gardeners, end-of-life caregivers, chefs, bakers, farmers, accountants. Same in the magikal world. Different people got different skills. Just don't be a dick. Also mind your fuckin business when it comes to others practices that have 0 impact on your controlling butt.
I'm glad there are people out there ethically cursing and hexing--our justice system is garbage. At least some kind of justice and punishments are being distributed.
On the other hand, there are also some unethical abusive toxic asshole curse flingers out there, too. Some know what they're doing, some may not. Some let their unhealed trauma do the talking. I've pissed off my share my share of unethical butthurt curse flingers, too, and been attacked or had attempts of attacks. Some which I've attacked back or I've had help from friends to either return or shield me and mine better. Know how to protect yourselves, even if you don't plan on attacking back. Even if you're not going to curse or hex, at least know how to protect yourselves.
Yes, protection can absolutely harm! To those who argue that protection magik isn't the same as bane. Splittin hairs. Even Return to Sender spells can be seen as bane. Yes, they're attacking and you're just sending their attacks back at them, but you're also making that decision to send that harm, those curses, right back at them. Especially if you're adding multipliers, like 3 fold, 10 fold.
Me? I make sure that shit burns, so my attacker knows not to fuck with me and mine again. I'm consciously making that decision--intensifying that curse when it Returns to Sender. Teaching the sender a lesson. Once they learn, the curse stops.
And not believing in cursing is hogwash, it's spiritual bypassing and/or toxic positivity. It's like believing that you're never going to have bad stuff happen to you. Or not believing in gun violence or some shit. It's positive bullshit. I've cursed atheists and had my magiks work! It's denial to think that bane magik ain't real. Don't be in denial, know how to protect yourselves.
Nature defends and fights for itself all of the time. Are humans not part of nature? Can't we defend and fight, too? Ridiculous notion that we shouldn't use magik and energy to defend ourselves and fight back against violent people or crime. How many of yall know basic self defence, martial arts, carry mace or a knife, or have guns? Sometimes locking your doors and windows, having a loud or trained dog, having alarms, or calling 911 ain't enough.
These are also privileged things to have.
You wield a piece of metal, I wield energy and spirits. We're not that different. Fuck, I'd argue that you're more dangerous--at least faster with your danger, but yall gonna shame us bane practitioners??? Okay. No hypocritical shit there, huh? It's okay to protect yourselves with deadly force mundanely, but not magically. Ok. Logic.
And maybe it's not the best idea to attack those who practice bane magiks? Just sayin. Again, not all of us share the same ethics, morals, and principles. Nor do we deserve to all be painted with the same brush. Some of us know what we're doing. Just as some of you gun owners and martial artists know what you're doing.
Let the healers heal. Let the protectors protect. Let the teachers teach. Let the cursers curse.
Thank yall for the support!
