Here's a story about the first time I went to someone's home to banish an "Astral Nasty".
Before I was a priestess (and before Covid), I was contacted by a student, whose relative had a spirit problem. Everything this spiritual relative was trying wasn't working. They even brought in another relative who is a witch--it helped a little bit, but the entity was still in the home, still causing problems.
I did meet with the relative in a public location so we could talk about their problems, things they've tried, and so on. They told me their family deity was Selene. I did some divination with Selene to see what our next steps should be in dealing with this entity AND protecting the family.
The morning of the banishment, said entity paid me a visit and tried to force entry into my home, but it wasn't able to get through my wards. I wasn't scared--I was protected by my Kindred and my magiks. Growing up in abuse, I'm used to tactics like this from cowardly bullies. And knowing that it couldn't get through my defenses gave me more confidence in dealing with it later.
When I arrived at the home, standing outside, the energy was DO NOT ENTER and I was hit with nausea. It knew I was there--it knew who I was and why I was there. I entered anyway. Sorry about your luck, but I had a job to do. Not going to be scared away.
The energy of the home was strange. There was another entity in the home--a shy, cautious non-human spirit who was curious about me, but stayed in the hallway. I respected their space, but told them and the other good and neutral spirits who I was and why I was there. I also asked the House Spirits for permission to be there and perform the purification and blessing. Their help was welcomed.
I set up a simple mini altar in the kitchen, nearest to the stove (the hearth of the home) and gave offerings to them and to my Kindred and Spirit Team. With me, I brought:
- Hestia statue
- A Representation of Selene, since she was the family's matron.
- Holy Water blessed by Hestia
- Sage
- Candle
- Lighter
- Offering Dish
- Offering for the House Spirits and my group
After deity invitations, introductions, offerings, and protection placed over the family, my student, and myself, I began the purification process, first with the sage smoke. I walked the whole home and property with the sage, speaking a simple prayer involving Hestia and Selene. I spoke with conviction. I said what was and wasn't welcome in the home.
In the living room the Astral Nasty attacked me with energy. Negative energy affects me with nausea and violent gagging. At one point, the entity popped out from behind the couch and I even fell over, but I pushed through. This entity was not going to bully me.
After using the sage smoke, I sat down in the living room, entered the liminal, and cleansed the home with energy--getting all of the nooks and crannies that I missed. My student said that while I was performing the energy cleanse, the family cat (who doesn't like strangers) came in the room and sat next to me. Around this time, she noted that it looked like I was distressed. I was a little because the Astral Nasty pushed back. I was able to remove other unwanted energies from the home, but the Astral Nasty retreated to the basement. I wasn't able to push it out of the home, so I trapped it down there instead.
The final phase was to bless the home and property with the Holy Water. I walked the home and property, sprinkling the lustral water, and spoke the simple prayers. Almost immediately, the home and property felt lighter and more welcoming.
Entering the basement, I sensed frustration and fear. I sprinkled the water and herded the Astral Nasty in a spot. I opened myself to Selene and entered the Liminal so I could see the entity better. It appeared as a floating ball of black tar-like goo. Powerless, pissed, and frightened. With a combination of Holy Water and energy, I released the Astral Nasty to Selene, who said that She would return it to its home in the Other.
Once gone, I returned to my body and finished the blessing.
I talked to the family about protection when meditating, trancing, and dreaming; as well as building good relationships with house guardians and their own Spirit Team, especially if they continue their spiritual work. I provided some exercises and I gave them a bottle of Holy Water, but also told them that they don't need a middle man to make their own. They can simply ask their Deities to bless the water for intention. If they're sensitive, they may be able to feel the difference in that water vs regular water. They can even drink the water, as long as its safe to do so.
The family hasn't had problems since. I'm also glad that the other witch relative came in to help before me--I think they helped to weaken this entity (also to piss it off, lol). Also their protection mainly focused on their family members, whereas mine focused on the home and the nooks and crannies where these entities sometimes like to hide.
That was the first time I physically went to someone's home to banish an entity and bless a home. Perhaps this can be helpful if you find yourselves having issues with troublesome entities who refuse to leave.
