On June 20th, I came across a post by Morgan Daimler called 7 Tips to Spotting Misleading Fairy Claims. Good post, Morgan knows her stuff. I just got to thinking about Nature Spirits.
Which is a general term that I use for the various types. Some are called fae, others called landwights or landvaettir, Jotun, nymphs, satyrs, dryads, and a whole host of other cultural names. Being eclectic, I have entities from all over the place—different parts of the world, different cultures, etc. It’s just easier to be general with Nature Spirits. Even They’ve said that the name doesn’t always matter. They are what They are.
Like Morgan says, they’re not all all cutesy, nice, or just waiting around for a human to come by for blessings or even malice. There’s a lot of different ones out there, of all shapes and sizes (I’ve seen tiny and colossal ones), personalities, agendas, temperaments. Some want to hurt you. Some don’t like humans for whatever reason, nor do they have to. Some, you have to do the work and build relationships—you have to prove yourself to them.
Walk your talk.
They’re far from helpless, but that doesn’t mean some won’t accept the help. However, some plain won’t. We gotta respect those who want nothing to do with us, or just don’t like us. No happy Disney or white savior nonsense. Give them their space. Unless, of course, they make it your business, and you can’t just pick up and move.
My home and property have layers of protection from all manner of those up to no good, corporeal and incorporeal. I’ve also worked hard to gain the respect of the entities around my home. I have made friends and I have allies—allies who’ll protect us when we’re out of home or off of lot.
When we first moved to our home a couple of years ago, the Nature Spirits were already strong. They knew me, too. For the most part, they were very welcoming. They also warned me that my presence attracted the attention of an entity who wanted me out of the area. The Nature Spirits helped me to secure my property, and in the astral I met the entity at a boundary and dealt with them. They haven’t been back yet, nor has any other Nature Spirit come to challenge me.
There are times when, yes, you have to defend—but don’t go lookin for trouble, especially without Spirit Allies.
I always tell my kids that like humans, Entities have their own agendas, their own personalities. Some like us, some don’t. Some are neutral, some are helpful, some are malicious. Be weary of all—Human and Entity.
Be respectful. Be strong. If you need help, ask your spirit team and me. I’ll do my best to give them the knowledge and tools. Growing up, I never had human guides, but I was blessed to have Entities show me the ropes of our world and theirs. So I teach my children to be aware and respectful.
Nature Spirits are different than human spirits and the Gods. They’re just different. Powerful, intelligent, feral, wild—In my experience, they have different rules. They’re our neighbors, you know? If you’re serious about this work, when you’re hunting for home and/or land, you talk to the Nature Spirits. Ask if they even want you there. Or strike up some kind of deal with them if you’re really adamant about the location.
Or say you’re there for ritual, magik, or even just camping, hiking, or hunting. I always ask for permission before performing ritual or magik when I’m outside. I am the guest in their home, and you gotta be respectful. I mean, how would feel if someone came into your home and treated it like they owned it? You wouldn’t like it, would you? Humans do enough to piss em off. If you’re aware of them, act like it. Some of them can and will harm you.
Some also have friends on this side who will help to protect.Why not ask for a message from the Nature Spirits?
