The Difference Between Spirits and Gods

 A Recent Trance Possession Experience.

On Wednesday, April 9th, I attended a weekly ritual with my Grove. It was a Round Robin, where people can volunteer for parts. I felt Spirit pushing me to sign up for Omen. Divination is my favorite part of ritual and if no one else wants to do it, I volunteer (I really do encourage others to volunteer to practice, to get comfortable, and so on).

…..But with me, given that I practice trance possession and automatic typing/writing, I never know how the omen’s going to go. Sometimes it’s normal, or as normal as it can be with me. Other times it’s just a channeling—me telling the audience what I’m hearing/seeing. Well, the last couple of times that I’ve done the omen, it’s been partial possession, which isn’t the same as channeling.

It’s not. Possession is hardcore and can be dangerous shit. You have to know who the fuck you are—what’s you and what’s someone/thing else, and how to “come back”. It’s not the same as channeling. Stop with the shit. It’s not the same thing. Spiritual fucking pet peeve. Let’s stop downplaying the seriousness of possession work, yes? It ain’t for everyone, either. Not all psychics can do it, nor should be be expected to. Nor does having the ability make you better than others. Possession work is not the same as channeling.

Sorry about that little rant. It just pisses me off when people just shrug possession off like it’s nothing and anyone can do it. No, it’s not “basically channeling”. Deep breath—apparently that was some anger that I didn’t know I was carrying until now.

Any who, I guess my Spirit Team is just comfortable with these Druids now.

Before the rite, I asked Who was going to give the omen, what tool They wanted to use, and if They were giving a message or blessings.

It was a Goði Seiðkona, she wanted the Mimir’s Well Rune Oracle Cards (by Tammy Rois), and she was giving a message.

When the omen part came, I introduced the statue and the spirit within, and got to work.

Normally, if a possession happens, I only do so with Deities and certain spirits. Very rarely do I allow human spirits to take control of me. My Guardians are the same way. But this Goði Seiðkona isn’t a regular human spirit. She’s done this work, too, she understand the work. She was once human and knows the human body, too. She’s powerful and is one of my Seiðr mentors, so there’s trust there.

Normally, it takes a Deity or a spirit a moment to get into the human suit and for us to adjust. Sometimes its jarring as fuck for an audience to see this transition—I’ve had people concerned that I was having a seizure, despite that I tell them what might happen.

It kind of freaks people out, even if they think they’re ready for it. But my Grove are chill people—a lot of them are fascinated by it, and a couple of them also practice different forms of channeling and possession work.

Possession, channeling, or a normal omen, the Grove looks forward to my divinations, which is pretty cool. I’m so used to being used by people and them being afraid of me and either trying to control me or kicking me out of groups. Having a group that actually values me as a diviner and as a person is something that I don’t take for granted. I’m very grateful for these Druids. Perhaps my Spirit Team sees that, too, and maybe why there’s no fear with my style of omens?

As I shuffled the cards, I told the group what I was seeing and hearing. I drew three cards—Thor Reversed, Fulla, and Bifrost. I remember talking about the first two cards…and then when I came to, the ritual was ending. My heart was pounding, I was hot and sweaty, and on the verge of tears.

The Goði Seiðkona took full possession, although someone said that I was also saying things that the Priestess was showing me and translating a little bit, but I don’t remember it. One person said that my voice changed—which is something that I’ve experienced in past possessions, especially with Baba Yaga.

The transition was so smooth, in and out. Either I’m getting better with possession or that’s difference between working with Gods and other spirits who’ve never been human, and a Seiðkona—a spirit who was once human and a spirit worker who practice possession work. She knew what she was doing.

Overall it was smooth and kind of gentle!

I grounded, hydrated, and did my usual psychic aftercare, and I didn’t have a “Possession Hangover” the next day, as often happens. Even with my psychic aftercare routine, sometimes I still experience a hangover the next day.

It was a pretty cool experience. I’m looking forward to working more with this Goði Seiðkona. I hope in the future, she feels comfortable possessing me. I know that’s such a weird thing to say, but it true. I’m sure other practitioners of possession work have their favorite entities, too.

It was nice.

Thanks for all of the Hearts, Follows, Subscribing, Purchases, Bookings, and Recommendations. I really do appreciate the support.
