My 41st birthday was on Friday, and it was a great weekend. My hubs got me a patio chair and table that I’ve been wanting forever. I love it.
After a sushi dinner and some gluten-free cake, I did a Birthday reading for myself, using the Bee Tarot and the Fairy Tale Fortune decks.
My guides pretty much said to keep on weaning myself from the internet and screens, and good things will come from it. “Abundance in all areas of my life—wealth and other forms of positive abundance.” It’s going to required work, effort, and discipline, and a push through the fear. The stagnation I’ve been trapped in is coming to an end.
Yay!
The Fairy Tale Fortune deck told me to have fun on Saturday and buy what I want without guilt. (I get terrible buyer remorse when I buy for me.)
The Sun and The Lily.
Success and Happiness.
We had beautiful weather yesterday. I went to a hippie liberal town here in Ohio called Yellow Springs with my BFF and her mom, as we’ve done once a year since our Wright State University days. Awesome birthday tradition. One year, many years ago, I also bumped into Dave Chapelle. I apologized, he was polite and chill. I don’t know if his mom still does, but she used to live there, so seeing Dave around town was normal. Not that he’s some huge celebrity or anything, but kinda cool. I’m not one of those annoying fans who badger famous people. You’re a person, too. You sleep, eat, shit, and shower like me—ain’t that special. And you also deserve to just be able to exist without being hounded by people.
Being a beautiful day, YS was PACKED! It took us a half hour to find a spot. We went to a restaurant called Peach’s Grill, which like a lot of the restaurants and shops, has been there for as long as I can remember. I think the owner waited our table. Super chill and energetic dude, I think his name was Billy? Good food, great service.
Yellow Springs is one of those towns where you know majority of the small business shops and what they have. It’s one of those towns where you can take your time, hang out, and people watch. The people are certainly interesting. Politic types, hippies, stoners, hipsters, musicians, artists, tourists, spiritual types, Orange Cheater Protestors, bikers, a strong positive LGBTQ+ community, Drag Queens supporting, etc. A very interesting town.
I had a plan of what I wanted for my birthday: a new deck, a journal, and a hat. I have a red one that I love, but because of MAGA I’ve haven’t worn it. I don’t want people thinkin that I’m a cultist, you know? I need a different hat, and fuck off MAGA for ruining red hats for me. Dickbags.
We hit our favorite shops:
Import House (I think is the name) - They were closed down. I was sad. They had some good stuff…and it was my hat shop. No new hat for me.
Super-Fly Comics & Games - Just as the name says.
House of Ravenwood - Witch / Pagan / Spiritual Shop that’s been on sale for a while, but the owners haven’t found the right buyers yet. I love that shop, but it’s always packed with people. But I did get myself the Moonology oracle deck by Yasmin Boland and Nyx Rowan. I’ve already bonded with the deck!
Little Fairy Garden - Plants and decorations. BFF’s mom loves this shop. It is cute.
Tibet Bazaar - Handmade items from that region.
Asanda Imports - Another mostly handmade shop from other countries. It’s one of my favorite shops, too. Back when I practiced Pagan Veiling majority of the time, it was my favorite place for veils and altar cloths. I almost bought a beautiful shimmery red and black scarf, but it wasn’t on my Shopping List.
Dark Star Books and Comics - Bookshop. It has new and older books, like a lot of the bookshops at Yellow Springs. Surprisingly they actually had a lot of books and decks on my wish list this time. I did get a beautiful lavender journal with bees on it.
After we hit out favorites, we checked out a few others shops—new and old—mostly looking for a new hat.
On our way out, we stopped by Dino’s Cappuccinos for some Chai. Yummy yummy chai.
After I got home, I took my new deck and journal and sat outside in my chair, and enjoyed the beautiful, cool evening. I wrote and reflected in my offline, off-screen journal. Something that I haven’t done in a long time. Journal. Not sketch (but no doubt I will sketch in this book, I just can’t help it). I do have journals, but they’re specific topics—like my Priestess Journal or my Divination Journal. Topic specific. This new journal is for whatever, just like the ones before Facebook or Blogspot.
I was also able to just buy for myself and not my kids yesterday. And I bought without guilt (only spent about $30, too!). I closed my eyes and just relaxed, feeling hopeful. Calm. I soaked up that Dark Moon energy, and sat in that soothing, cool, silent darkness, listening to the deafening frogs down at the ponds and to the early spring insects chirping and the fluttering of the moths wings pass me to the porch light.
It’s supposed to be a rainy and stormy day today. If my porch was covered, guess where I’d still be? It’s not even 9 am yet.
Thanks for all of the Hearts, Follows, Subscribing, Purchases, Bookings, and Recommendations. I really do appreciate the support.
