Yesterday, during the Wyrd Sanctuary's Sunday Circle, we made energy balls. The focus was more about feeling the energy, especially since some folks have aphantasia and can’t visualize. I believe this weeks Circle Guide was using what they learned from Neuromagick: Basic Energy Work, Step by Step.
My experience turned into something else, as usual. I closed my eyes and built the ball. The inside of my energy ball bloomed a big pink rose—not my doing! I was curious, what did it mean? Then a car-sized Melissae spirit appeared and entered my window. The Melissae ("may-lease-ah") are Bee Goddesses, a type of Nymph, Spirits, and Priestesses of Ancient Greek and Minoan pagans (I think Mediterranean in general?).
The Bee Priestesses and Dancers!
In my experience, the Melissae have taken the forms of many different bee species, such as the honey bee, bumblebees, carpenter bees, wasps, and hornets; and they are in service of different Gods and Goddesses. In my window was a car-sized yellow jacket! Loud deafening buzzing of Her wings. Fierce, badass, and beautiful. But I wasn't alarmed, as I'm no stranger to working with animal spirits, nor the Melissae, no matter their size.
For the last few years, I've been celebrating the Melissae (and other entities related to Bees) during various times of the Summer, such as First Day of Summer (June 20-21), Midsummer (August 1), and Honeysweet (Aug 1-September 20-22). My family and I learn about the bee family, read bee books, do arts and crafts, eat honey foods and drinks, drum and dance for the nature spirits, and perform ritual to honor these Bee Entities, celebrate their gifts and messages, and perform magiks for ethical farmers and bee keepers. I was very comfortable with this giant Bee Entity in my space.
This Melissae communicated physically
and psychically. She was eager for the flower,
but She wanted more. So I made it
bigger by expanding the energy ball and feeding the flower specific nourishing energies. Once satisfied, the Melissae gathered it and
flew off, out my window.
Well, I wasn’t planning on giving an offering during our
energy practice, but there you go! With
the flow!
I made a new ball and this time a cute, plump, cartoony bee appeared within it. A happy bee. I knew this one was for me, so I put this ball into my heart, and felt buzzing, comforting energy. Energy bee wings unfolded from my back. It was lovely. I was filled with vitalizing energy and inspiration for the upcoming Honeysweet on the Wyrd Sanctuary and an in-person event that I've put together for some witches and pagans in my area this Saturday.
Thank you, Melissae!
