Today is April 1st, 2025, as I write. I’m actually about to attend an ADF Virtual Proto-Grove ritual honoring Loki on Zoom. I have a cup of peanuts for offerings, since the local crows around here love peanuts. To be fair, Loki wanted mead, but the closest that I have to that right now is honey and water.
I wanted to share a gift that I got from my eldest for my 41st birthday a few days ago.
It is the statue of Pythia, a Delphic High Priestess and Oracle, holding a laurel branch and a bowl of spring water. I love it. Her eyes look eerily realistic, too. Or perhaps its just me? I’ve been wanting this statue every since I saw her. For in-person readings, I usually have a little altar set up for Hermes, My Ancestors, Fox Guide, and which ever Goddess wants to come along. Usually its Eir, one of Frigg’s Handmaidens and one of Odinn’s Valkyries—A Goddess of Healing.
Very appropriate for the oracular work that I do. But honestly, I wanted that Oracle statue to help connect me to other Seer/Conduit Ancestors and Spirits. Most of them were human like me. While I value and am extremely grateful for the Deities and Non-Human Spirits who’ve mentored me in this work, my Gods have also taught me that Human Ancestors of Blood and Spirit will always be closer to us than Them. They understand more about what the human body is capable of, and can teach me those limits and potentials, too. I’ve actually learned quite a bit from Seidr Spirits already.
Although I’ve been using the Oracle title since the beginning of my Possession Trance Journey, I haven’t really had much connection with the Delphic Oracles, or any other Hellenic Oracles/Seers, really. I have more of a connection with the Norse Seidkonas and Völva. Yes, the women workers, not so much the men…well minus Odinn. I haven’t seen any male/male presenting Seidr and Völva Spirits yet. I’m sure there are many, and perhaps another time. For now it’s just the women/fem presenting that I’ve seen and worked with.
However, the Norse Entities call me Seidkona, where as the Hellenic and Roman entities call me an Oracle. Perhaps it’s just a difference in language? As a Priestess (they all call me Priestess in the same tongue), I’m connected to Vesta’s Vestals, Dionysus’ Maenads, and to the Melissae—the Bee Priestesshood. I’ve yet to connect to Norse religious groups yet…except to these Seidkona and Völva.
As mentioned above, many of those people were once human, too. There’s a different kind of connection—an ancestral connection, closer to me than the Gods ever can be. Does that make sense?
Even though my Kindred, especially the Shining Ones, call me Seidkona and Völva, I feel like I need more practice before fully embracing those terms. I went through a period with Oracle, too, when I was trying to find the correct word for what I was doing and what I was. Seeress just didn’t feel right to me.
When I first studied Seidr, it was a lot of closer to the spirit work and witchcraft I’ve been doing for years. Its been very easy to learn. I don’t know why I feel like I need more practice before embracing the terms? Maybe it’s a confidence thing? I still don’t really know what or if there’s a difference between a Seid Worker and a Völva. They honestly seem like the same kind of work. Seid is basically Norse Shamanism—Spirit Work and Seership, and a Völva—a witch and a seer. I’ve also seen people treat it as you are a Völva and you practice Seidr. Yet Seidkona and Seidmadr are also terms separate from Völva. Maybe there is no difference, just preference? I’ve only been studying and practicing Seid since January of 2022; and I don’t really remember my teachers or authors diving into the differences too much, or which term is more appropriate for X working.
Doesn’t help when the Kindred use both terms for you.
Perhaps Völva just means Witch? A witch I’ve been since I was a little thing.
I still have a lot to learn. These kinds of things tend to be lifelong journeys anyway.
When I pulled this statue from the packaging, I didn’t feel Oracle energy, I felt Seidkona specifically.
Perhaps its a general connection to those human spirits who were and are entity conduits?
We just finished the ritual. Loki took partial control over my hand and did some automatic writing in my journal, saying that I wasn’t an Oracle anymore, and proceeded to write Seidkona and Völva over and over, in English and Elder Futhark, in my journal.
Maybe it’s time to embrace these terms, eh? Stop overthinking and just do the dang thing.

Ah, that’s why this statue doesn’t feel Hellenic. A Seidkona Spirit does reside in the it! I cleansed it and the Seidkona became clearer and stronger. Even though this statue is of a very regal Delphic High Priestess and Oracle, she also has that feral, dangerous energy that I’ve come to know with the Seidkona Spirits. Dangerous as in powerful. Ancient and modern. Marshy women who’ve crawled up from the mud to greet me on many trance journeys. Sometimes even pulling me down to other places. Filling my mouth with detoxifying mud and ash.
I’ve found beautiful pictures of Seidkona and Völva (such as this one by Anetteprs). I’d love to find a statue to join me on my in-person readings and private studies. The two are becoming more and more popular, so perhaps I’ll come across a statue sooner than later?
Regardless of what I end up calling myself, which it looks like my Kindred vote for Seidkona over Oracle, my business’s name will remain Hearth Fox Oracle.

I’ve been thinking about what Loki and the Others have said. I asked myself why I’m so hesitant to embrace Seidkona.
Because I’m afraid of being wrong, I guess. Terms like Witch and Spirit Worker are pretty general terms, perfect for an “nomadic” Eclectic who does their own things—not really at home in any one tradition or sect. I like my freedom, not to be told how to think, feel, believe, and practice by other humans with their own agendas. Too often I’ve found myself caged, cursed, or ostracized by others who were afraid of me or jealous.
Whereas words like Seidkona and Völva are very specific to regions, cultures, and types of paganism, spirit work, and seership. Even though random Spirit and Deities that I’m devoted to call me those terms, I’m still hesitant to accept.
Today Someone said it’s not like someone’s going to pop quiz me on it. I know the work that I’ve done. Who cares what another human thinks? Perhaps they should be questioning the authenticity of their path since they’re judging others paths. I’ve never really cared about how “authentic” “historic” or “ancient” my practices are. My beliefs are strong. My bonds with the Kindred are strong. My magiks work just fine. My shit works. My spirituality and Gods are alive today, not stuck in the past. Fuck authentic historically accurate paganism. My shit’s alive today, dude! Makin history! Family history. Ain’t no one else’s business, unless I choose to make it.
Don’t like it? I don’t give two shits.
So as of today, I, Kristy/Foxlyn, fully embrace being a Seidkona.
Doesn’t mean that I have to use these terms for the rest of my life—although there’s a high chance that I’ll always be some kind of Spirit Worker and Seeress.
Another stepping stone on my life long journey? Or a lifelong title? Only time will tell.
