March 6th is the Full Moon and on my spiritual path, it's also the Epopteia (Eh-pop-te-ah), which is a Greek word meaning "the fiery vision of Persephone returning from the Underworld" or so I've been taught. Some odd years ago, I was a Hellenic Polytheist for a few years, and this is another one of those half inspired by an existing holy time, half UPG. I don't know that there is an "official" Epopteia, or like the Flamma Vesta, if it was just a term that I loved and felt that it fit. Bad memory combined with not being able to find my Hellenic Polytheism binders at the moment.
The Epopteia has a sister holy day in September, Persephone's Descent. In September, either on the Dark/Full Moon or on the Fall Equinox, Persephone returns to the Underworld. Either on March's Full Moon or Spring Equinox, She leaves Hades for 6 months, flowers in Her steps, joining Her power with many other Spring Entities. Why the moon issue? Well, it really it depends on when Persephone starts contacting me or giving me visions of Her descent/ascent.
My first vision of Persephone's Descent, was back in 2015-2016. Both in trance and not, I was having visions for weeks, of me meeting a Fox at the mouth of a cave. A cave that had menstrual blood trickling out of it. I understood this cave opening as the entrance to Gaia's Womb. I followed the Fox and the blood deep down into the darkness. I met Persephone near the entrance, and I began a journey to become a Torch Bearer for Her and Hekate. Until I had my own burning torch, I walked with Persephone. As we walked, She was decaying, becoming skeletal and gray skinned. Still ethereal and beautiful, just dead. Sometimes She'd have moment of madness. We walked until we came to Hekate standing at a door--a door to the Underworld. I was not permitted to follow, but Persephone embraced me, and left.
Other visions that I've had of Persephone's De/Ascent, I've met her Half Alive and Half Dead, kind of like the Norse Goddess Hel, only the dead half of Persephone's face would be a doe skull, instead of humanoid. Sometimes half of Her body, too.
Other times, I've met Persephone at the door and instead of decay, She returns to life.
When I start getting visions from Her, I know it's about that time for Her return.
These names and times are different among other people, I think most people tend to focus on Equinox's, which makes total sense. I'm eclectic and do what makes sense to me. There's nothing wrong with tweaking or coming up with your own holidays, sabbats, festivals, etc. It should have meaning for you. If it doesn't, why bother? You don't have to have any days! Who cares if your celebrations aren't ancient? At some point in time, neither were those celebrations and observances either. Gotta start somewhere!
So for today's Full Moon and Epopteia, I'm going to ask Persephone for a message. She's decided on a Community Message for those who read this post. For Persephone I use the Biddy Tarot.
Persephone what is your message for the community?
I saw '2...6...9...13' as I shuffled.
She has instructed me to pull two cards from the bottom of the deck.
The Devil - As a Major Arcana card, this is an overarching journey card, meaning that it sticks with you for some time. Persephone is hitting on the relationship part of this card. The kinds of relationships that are too good to be true, the kind that keep you from seeing how potentially toxic a person or situation can be. Remember your boundaries, do no be manipulated to drop them. Healthy boundaries are there for a reason.
Persephone says, "Honor yourselves. Do not lose yourself in this relationship."
I asked, "Is this an outside relationship--with other people--or is it a relationship within yourself?"
"Yes."
Four of Cups - Traditionally Cups deal with water, emotions, and relationships. The number 4 can deal with stability, foundations, and building blocks.
For this reading, this card supports The Devil's warning, in that it says to not jump into anything right now. Save it for later. Perhaps you've healing to do? Perhaps you're too vulnerable, easily manipulated, or desperate? Desperation definitely isn't a reason to jump into any kind of relationship.
What Persephone isn't saying that that you have to love yourself before loving others--no, that's toxic thinking. What She's saying with these two cards is to give it time. Get to know the person or situation before accepting it. The man on the card is meditating...perhaps give it go? Meditate and see if that helps in your decision making.
Persephone says, "Be cautious and take your time. No need to rush into something. You also don't have to shut everything down either. Need more time to think, to digest your presented options. Just...remember your boundaries. If you lack them, this is a great time to come up with some for yourself. What to allow or not allow? What makes you safe? Research healthy boundaries if you have to, but set them. Enforce them, but as Vesta said on the 1st, be willing to be flexible at times. Know when bend like a willow in the winds or to be as unyielding as an oak."
Thank you Persephone.
I hope this message resonated with you. If it didn't that's okay, too. As a community message, it's not going to resonate with everyone. Perhaps another diviner's message will?
