I’m sure many of you know of the Marvel Loki, but what about the real Loki? Who are they? First off, Loki is not some Norse Devil and demon, as some people paint Them to be. Trust me, if you study the myths, you’ll find that some of the Norse deities have done far worse things than Loki has done. It’s true that Loki is responsible for the death of Baldur and that They lead chaotic forces against the Gods—Ragnaroc—and thus causing the end of that world. In the new world, Baldur emerges from the spirit world as the new ruler of the Gods, thus starting a new cycle of life.
Loki is the meteorite that killed the dinosaurs. Loki is the trigger for multiple ice ages. Loki is the wildfire that destroys the land and kills many creatures…leaving in its wake ash and pain and fears and tears…and fertile lands for new growth and new life. Loki is chaos, and from chaos, order is born. When order becomes too restrictive, Loki and others like Them arrive to reset the balance. Loki is extreme healing.
Loki is no devil. Loki and others like Them are necessary for fertility in body, mind, and spirit, and for new beginnings and growth.
Loki is the child of Farbuti and Laufey, making Them a Jotun; sibling of Helblindi and Byleistri. They are a lover to many, including Angrboda and Sigyn. They are the parent of Hel, Fenrir, Jormungand, Narfi, Vali, and Sleipnir.
For me, Loki takes on the form of Marvel Loki (definitely not my choice), fox, serpent, and spider. I often interact with both Loki and Baldur, and do a lot of shadow work with Them, exploring my own relationships with chaos and joy.
Let’s get started on that divination with Loki, shall we?
