Back in 2014-2015, as I was learning how to develop and hone my psychic abilities, Hekate and Dionysus told me to get a set of runes. Years before I had tried to learn Elder Futhark runes, but at the time, it was just too difficult for me, since some of the runes kind of look the same or the names are a little too similar (having dyslexia certainly didn't help). I was nervous when my Teachers said to learn, but away I went to shop for a set of runes.
I went to one of my favorite spiritual shops, The Magical Druid , here in Central Ohio. As I was looking, I came across a set of runes that I've never seen before: 13 Witches' Runes. There were only 13, compared to EF's 24, and the symbols were easy to learn, so I bought the set pictured above. Reading the instructions, which I can't really remember anymore, a part stuck with me, that I do with all of my different rune sets: blow into the bag before drawing or casting. I don't remember if the instructions said why to do this, but over the years, especially learning about Odin and Elder Futhark, breath is important--it's inspiration, divine messages, life, ond, ansuz.
With any runes, I stick my hand into a bag and shuffle, asking Spirit or a particular entity a question. The important thing with divination is practice. Don't just wait until you have an important question to ask, use your tools every day or week. You can ask a basic simple questions like:
- What will I learn today?
- What message do you have for me?
Or draw in the morning without looking at the tool. At the end of your day, THEN look at the tool and see if its message corresponded to your day.
After asking my question, I shuffled until my hands tingled. Then I blow into the bag and draw the first runes that my fingers touched…sometimes touching more than one at once! I almost always draw three runes, unless my guides tell me more or less.
Once I got pretty good with my 13, I started hearing and dreaming of the word "Cartomancy"...so I got myself a deck. Again, like the Elder Futhark, I had troubles learning Tarot years before, but I gave it another go…with my 13. Using the runes and decks–tarot and oracle) together really helped me. Sometimes one tool would clarify the other OR go into more depth. Over time, my tools grew in numbers, and by using different tools at once, I'd get to know the spirit and method of each. Some were better at telling stories than others. Some were more blunt, gentler. I got to see which tools work best with another tool. Using them just really helped me to learn and become more confident as a diviner and a psychic. Eventually, I got myself an Elder Futhark rune set, too.
I adore this set, my first set of Witch Runes. In 2017, I made it a second pouch (still using the original that came with it) and both pouches have held up pretty well over the years–and I use this set a lot!
The Magical Druid has many different kinds of runes, and they still sell Witches' Runes, albeit a little different in shape than my own. Check out their shop! In-person is better if you're able to, the owners and employees are great and the energy is lovely. This shop is still one of my favorites in Central Ohio.
Thank for your support, yall!
