Pick-a-Card: Poseidon's Message - 7/8/21

Did you know the the 8th of the month is sacred to the Greek God Poseidon?  Today's Pick-a-Card's messages are coming from Him, via the Mythic Oracle by Carisa Mellado and Michele-Lee Phelan.

Take a deep breath and clear your mind.  Focus on your question.  What would you like advice about, Community?  Something specific?  Some general guidance?  Let's see what Poseidon' may have for you.  Pay attention to any letters, numbers, or positions that may come to you, as this could be your intuition or guides aiding you.

Poseidon, what is your message for the Hearth Fox Oracle Community?

As I shuffled I heard, "Sacrifice."  Sacrifice doesn't always require taking a life.  He could be asking what you're willing to sacrifice for changes or goals.  Or perhaps what are you sacrificing, what is the cost of your wants or needs?

Pick your cards, if you feel drawn:

Who is Poseidon?  He is the Greek God of the Seas and oceans, fresh and salt waters, and horses. The Earth Holder and Shaker. Son of Kronos and Rhea. Brother of Hestia, Hera, Demeter, Hades, and Zeus. Husband of Amphitrite. Lover of many.  Father of Triton and others.

Poseidon has been in my life for a long time, but I didn't accept Him until 2018, after guidance from Hekate, Hestia, and Medusa.  He's helped me through a lot in my life, particularly with my emotions and temper.  He's also the one who told me to never kneel before or grovel to the Gods.  Poseidon said to stand tall and look Them in the eyes.  Every since, I have.  It's helped tremendously with my healing, strength, and confidence.

He also taught me to never judge the Gods based solely on myths, because like The Bible, those are stories written by humans with their own agendas, their own UPGs.  Those humans are not the end-all, be-all of the gods, as some modern humans treat them as.  Modern myths are just as valid as the ancient ones.  The Gods are not the myths.  When Poseidon first came to me, I had a difficult time accepting Him because of the rape myths surrounding Him (and other Gods).  But Hekate, Hestia, and Medusa helped me through my traumas and unfair judgements.  Poseidon is one of the beloveds of my personal pantheon.

I still enjoy reading the myths, and still encourage others to read them, too, but I encourage people to separate real Deity from myth Deity.  Speaking of which, for more information on Poseidon (and others of that pantheon), check out Theoi.com.  Lots of good information on that website.

Have you picked your cards?

Here's the reveal!

  1. Aphrodite - Love - When this card comes up for me, it's rarely about love and romance regarding other people, and more about love and care for myself.  According to the author, whether you're with people or not, "this is a time of romantic adventure.  Let go, take emotional risks, be brave, open up, and take the initiative" (page 94).
  2. Achilles - Glory - "Accept and embrace that which makes you vulnerable, and use that to follow your passions" (page 130).
  3. Dionysus - Liberation - In a rut?  Like an earthquake, it's time to shake away those old restrictive walls.  Break free from the mold.  Find your true self and do what makes you happy. Work on dancing, singing, and laughing even though people may be watching.  Do what makes you happy, not what makes others comfortable.
  4. Prometheus - Sacrifice - This card says that sometimes we have to sacrifice the wants of our ego for "higher causes and greater gains".  Leave your comfort zones.  Do not compromise your health, happiness, beliefs, or even safety for toxic situations/people.  Make those difficult decisions and enforce your boundaries.  Make the necessary sacrifices for something greater and better, be it for yourself and/or others. (pages 40-41)
  5. Eos - New Beginnings - The time for new beginnings, new projects, new opportunities, and new adventures is now.
